Every painting tells a story. Before I ever pick up a paintbrush, I want to understand yours.

Art has the unique ability to preserve moments that words cannot fully capture. Whether you're celebrating a relationship, honoring someone you love, remembering a meaningful place, marking a life transition, or simply creating something beautiful for your home, this process is about far more than creating a painting. It's about creating a lasting reminder of what matters most.

This questionnaire helps me understand not only what you want your artwork to look like, but why it matters to you. The more I understand your story, the more intentionally I can create a piece that reflects it.

Step one is to complete the questionnaire below and send us reference images or inspiration images that Ashley may use in crafting your original artwork. After reviewing your application, we'll schedule a complimentary Creative Vision Session where we'll dream together about your piece before I begin sketching.

After all parties agree on a singular perception of the final piece, Ashley will give an accurate price point. A final price is negotiated, and the first deposit—which is 25% of the full commissioned price—is made. Once the deposit is received, Ashley will guarantee your spot in her painting queue.

When your painting is complete, we'll schedule a personalized reveal—The Reveal Experience—where you'll experience your artwork for the first time while hearing the inspiration behind many of the creative decisions that brought your story to life.

Medium

Ashley creates watercolors, acrylic, and oil paintings. Her watercolors are painted on high quality, watercolor paper, and cut to size. By default, her acrylics are painted on gallery style stretched canvas, 1.5-2" in depth, sides are painted for a 3-D effect. Oils are painted on standard flat canvas board.

Preservation and Framing

Artwork may come unframed or framed, according to customer specifications. Framing and varnishing may affect the price quote and timing of the finished piece. Watercolors are varnished with Cold Wax Medium which prevents the artwork from smudging and fading over time. This method allows for the artwork to be framed without glass, and adds depth and vibrancy to the painting. Please allow 3-days drying time to your timing. Acrylics are preserved using a Matte Medium. Customers may specify gloss or other methods of preservation if desired. Acrylics must cure for up to 30-60 days before varnishing. Please allow 1 to 2 months post-completion to your timeline when ordering. Oils are preserved with a varnish, but cannot be varnished until 6 months after drying to cure. Thus, you may either opt to leave the painting until fully varnished and preserved, or ship or drop the painting back off at the studio 6 months after completion to be varnished at no extra charge.

Brushwork Styles

Realistic - subject and background are photo-realistic and blended and set in a specific location Subject Realistic - Background Impressionistic -- subject is photo-realistic and blended and background is loose and brushy but in a set location Impressionistic - subject and background are loose and brushy and set in a specific location Subject Realistic - Background Abstract -- subject is photo-realistic and blended but set on an abstract background, not set in a specific location; just colors, paint spatters, thick texture, and brush strokes. Subject Impressionistic - Background Abstract - subject and background loosely painted; background and subject blend into each other with an over-all abstract quality, brush strokes can be seen with color, spatters, and textures. Abstract - whole piece as abstractly and loosely painted as possible, the crazier the better, non-realistic and imaginary with colors, brush stokes, missing elements, expressive painting, and textures.

Creative Freedom

Additional materials can include impasto thick texture on top of the canvas, paper products, glue, gold leaf detailing, glitter or metallics.

Copyrights

Default practice, and what is recommended, is for the artist to retain all copyrights to their own artwork to showcase online and display to the public in any manner they choose. This also includes for use on commercial sites and promotional products for others to purchase, such as art prints, tote bags, and pamphlets. If you wish to request copyrights, you are requesting that Ashley not use your work in her portfolio, not allow your work to be showcased online, and you wish to use it for your own personal and commercial use to make prints, album covers, book covers, etc.
